I began drawing basic black lines, curves and shapes. Eventually I saw skaters — a couple —offer themselves from the canvas. And I continued painting, bringing them out, maintaining efficiency of lines. The fluid curves contribute to the feeling of movement. The colors are basic, muted, 1920s-feeling. This painting makes me think of Alfred Eisenstaedt’s ice skating waiters, done up in a cubist(ic), expressionistic-suprematism style, with additional patterns and objects emerging.
