Sancho is both an original rescue piece from my favorite oddities shop, 12 Vultures, and a victim of "re-arting". Originally created in August 2023, Frederick was never my favorite. His original color selection, while lovely in my mind, was disappointing in actuality. Sometimes I find I have to set with something for awhile before I hear his story. It was thus with Frederick.
I've always loved the intricacies of his horns. They clearly speak of a previous life of great danger and peril. Scarred and battle worn, they begged to be emphasized in the piece. I believe that my original design did not complement the horns.
In re-arting, Frederick became Sancho. I first strove to highlight the lightness of the horns with a rich metallic espresso, then echoed the lightness of the horns with a rich cream leather lining.
I found a beautiful Travelore ornament in a traditional cross in dark, rich colors. The surrounding beadwork is rich, deep dark chocolates and bronzes, highlighted with pearl seed beads, connecting the cream leather accents.
This new interpretation hits the mark perfectly, honoring the quiet tale of a brave and honorable soul.
