The name Porfirio, of Greek origin, means "purple-clad" or "purple dye". It's derived from the Greek word porphyra, which refers to the rare, luxurious purple dye associated with royalty and luxury in ancient times.
I started this pronghorn skull, which was a find at a little taxidermy shop in Afton, CO in January 2025, at the Spring Open House Event at Prairie Edge. I LOVE the light purple beads down the center of his face - they look like tiny, perfect mosaic tiles. It must be the shape of the glass bead and the way it reflects the light that give the illusion.
