Kelly Hart
Kelly Hart is a digital artist working primarily in photo-based new media, currently residing in the mid-west, USA.
MessageKelly graduated with a BFA in Studio Art with photography and digital imaging emphasis from the University of Idaho in Moscow, and an MFA in Photography from the University of Montana, in Missoula where she lived for 20 years. She relocated to the Pacific Northwest in 2019 where she worked and lived until 2024. She now resides in Ohio, where she was born and raised and lived her first quarter century.
Her recent digital work (2017-2024) while abstract in nature, is based entirely on realist digital photographs (e.g. not abstracted in-camera) inspired by natural environments, collected while on travels and other adventures in the West. She enjoys exploring big cities, small towns, and all of the natural places in between - collecting (hoarding?) images from unique locales and digitally manipulating them to reinforce their inherent elements of color, texture, and pattern. This work is created through unique, original processes, usually within Photoshop and always from original images. The questions and arguments of AI in artmaking have become more relevant since the start of the current body of work, and will either redirect it to be more human/hands-on or more human/AI collaborative. Time a will tell.
Artist influences include Gerhard Richter, Damien Hirst, Yayoi Kusama, Henri Matisse, and cultural art movements like Aboriginal Art and certain Japanese periods employing repetitious color, pattern and themes. Cultural influences such as tv and film, science and technology, and textiles also influence the work both visually and conceptually.
