Katie Fogarty
Stoughton, MA
Torn but not broken, it's a story! I swear...a lot, I love glitter! My jam, abstract art. My goal - keep showing up and working my magic on the daily. BOSTON
MessageKatie Fogarty is an artist who’s use of color, medium and brushstrokes will make your soul come alive with joy. Her abstract expressionist paintings are beautifully unique with a combination of color usage like no other. Visually, it is truly like the “soul awakening”. Painting, drawing and creative crafting have been a part of her life as far back as she can remember, and she is ready to share her wonderful passion with the world. She feels truly blessed to be able to love what she does, perpetually creating and bringing happiness and thoughtful abstract works of art into peoples lives, homes and businesses. Residing in Massachusetts and annual vacations in upstate New York, Katie has the best of what nature can offer to be her muse, from the beautiful coastline of the cape cod beaches, to the Adirondack lakes and mountains, she is completely inspired by her surroundings. Katie can be found spending lots of quality time outdoors with her pups Mac and Coco, constantly looking for the next color palette nature has to offer. Appreciating this beauty is where her ever evolving ideas bloom into multi layered works of breathtaking art.
Statement
I know most artists start their statements with “I have been creative all of my life, even as a young child I was always coloring or painting.” Yes that was me too, but life sometimes ends up taking many detours; some wonderful & uplifting, & some, welp... that’s a story for another time. However, now, with my covid pandemic gray hair taking over, I know that art is calling for me. I am answering that call with a clear and positive mindset and my soul is ready to soar!
I have had my share of life’s experiences thrown at me. My best; by far, are my three kids. They absolutely have my heart. My worst; the loss of my mom and dad, years of infertility treatments, and then sadly, after 28 years of marriage, going through a divorce. Quite honestly those five years of separation and ultimately a divorce were some of the darkest moments I have ever known. Painting was there for me as a recovery and healing in every sense of the word. I start out all of my painting ideas by writing on my journal pages. It gets very ugly and beautiful and quite real all on the blank canvas or journal page. This process of writing down my thoughts and feelings legitimizes my voice, which can sometimes feel caught in my throat or stuck in my head, always wanting the opportunity to be heard and acknowledged. Painting over the words and thoughts, doesn’t discredit them, it heals them and adds to the emotional rescue in a way that nothing else can. All the emotions come from some deep part of me, painted by the brush that I control. Painting allows me the voice I need for myself. It fills my soul, which helps to make my meaningful and beautiful art.
I feel my strongest form of expression is intuitive abstract art and mixed media. While I mainly work in acrylics, I do add graphite, ink, oil pastel, art crayons and gelatos. Most of my work is done on gallery wrapped canvas, my favorite size being 36" x 36”, but I occasionally also work on paper.
I truly believe that “Art is the Window to the Soul”. It has helped me heal, raised my voice, and carried me through all the phases of my life thus far. I hope that my art is an inspiration for anyone who needs to find their own words.
I try my hardest to have the photos represent as close to real "color to the eye" as possible. There is always bound to be some variations in color and how it appears on someone's lap top or phone.
