Landscape Painting

The Pacific Ocean Honolulu Looking South

I have always had a fascination with the sea and sky not because of my love for landscape painting but probably originating in the fact that my father Jim Collins was a pilot who conveyed his interest to me as as a child in flight and the ability for human beings to see the landscape from the air .

Mechanically flight is also miraculous as it enables an objective perspective on the landscape and seascapes that earlier generations would never have seen . Therefore I can engage in the visual question of the process of seeing the world from different perspectives and as an architect I look at buildings in a similar way . The landscape is like a large structure which can be perceived in elevation or section or plan view . That is from the ground or the air or the sea. Each view is different and the same view can change with the light as the day passes into evening.

I am endlessly fascinated by this and seek to convey something of this miracle of our world through my landscape painting.
