Kathryn Carter explores a sense of place in her paintings that connects her to the New Zealand landscape through observational studies of islands and headland landforms predominantly in Auckland and Northland.
Kathryn paints from her Northland studio on the Tutukaka Coast and at her studio at Railway St Gallery in Auckland. Recently spending four months in Northland she was able to observe the seasonal change of light and weather conditions that the transition from winter to summer brings.
‘I found that every day I could paint brought me great riches of interpretation, from the colour of the light to the expanse of the sea to the atmosphere of the weather.‘ Here are some examples of her recent work .
