Parts of Self Series
My 2023 Parts of Self Series is a collection of abstract landscapes of the mind. Inspired by the way remembering a place in time can bring to life the past feelings of a past self. In this body of work, I have drawn from early paintings I completed at a time in my life when art became a therapeutic escape from the world. My paintings then and now are expressions of the self. Revisiting and recreating these pieces is a practice in revisiting the person I was when I painted them. Drawing from images of nature, this new series presents the experiences and feelings of my past self as a landscape to be explored. By acting as both creator and observer of these landscapes, the paintings become expressions of one person’s desire to understand the person they once were, in order to know the person they are.
Piles of Stone / Old Stone Walls
A love letter to New England's old stone walls.
The “piles of stone” and “old stone wall” paintings, exist just because I really like the stone walls that crawl across the landscapes of Connecticut. Knowing that each stone was placed there by human hands, some centuries ago, they are a reminder of the passing of time, and the impact we can have on our environment.
Rage Paintings
My recent series of paintings is a celebration of feminine rage in response to the expectations and societal pressures put on women. Using natural imagery, poetic elements and vibrant bold colors, these paintings are meant to exist as radical acceptance of the negative emotions women are often pressured and conditioned to ignore for the sake of others.
