Okie Reflections

Paintings and mixed media pieces made during 2021-22 based on my memories of growing up in Oklahoma. I believe that the environments that we grow up in imprint on our psyches branding us forever. Oklahoma boasts of big skies, flat plaines of grass, and low scrub brushes that dot the landscape all colored by the ever changing weather of this state.

Reassembled Landscapes

In these mixed media landscapes, I explore the intersection of abstraction and
nature through the layering of hand-painted collage elements over acrylic
painting. Each piece is a reflection of the dynamic and ever-changing beauty of
the natural world, capturing the movement of water, the vastness of the sky, and
the rugged textures of rock and earth. By deconstructing and reconstructing color,
form, and texture, I aim to evoke a sense of place that is both familiar and
surprising. These works invite viewers to engage with the landscapes at a remove
and close by. At a distance, they can appear powerful and dramatic. And on closer
inspection, the viewer will find hidden textures and unexpected touches of color,
much like nature herself.
