Kate Emberlyn Miller
Half Moon Bay, California
Soulful abstract art for high end residential, hospitality, and commercial spaces.
MessageKate Miller is the artist and designer behind Elworthy Studio wallpaper and textiles. Her designs grace residential and commercial spaces across the country and have been featured in publications such as Luxe, Interior Design, and Architectural Digest. After more than a decade of creating luxury home decor based on her original artwork, Kate felt pulled to expand into a new medium to fully express what she has to say as an artist. She transitioned Elworthy Studio operations to a trusted partner and now dedicates her time and creative energy to creating one-of-a-kind original abstract paintings for her clients.
Kate’s career has been rich and varied, and she truly feels that every step along the way served an important purpose and informs her creative work. Prior to founding Elworthy Studio in 2015, she worked as a designer buyer and visual merchandising manager for a large NYC-based department store (while moonlighting as a DJ), then served as online merchandising manager for a fast-paced e-commerce startup. More recently, she participated in and then co-facilitated a yearlong shamanic program, supporting a group of women in deep healing and personal transformation and teaching them how to return to Earth based ways of living.
She has lived in several major cities around the world, including New York, London, Shanghai, and San Francisco, yet left the urban life behind for a serene coastal town in Northern California where she lives with her husband and young daughter. When she isn't in the studio, Kate enjoys long hikes and beach walks, singing with her community song circle, wildcrafting herbal medicine, and getting lost in fantasy novels.
Statement
My work is a return to natural intelligence and an act of rebellion against our fast paced, information obsessed world.
Rooted in my identity as a woman and fueled by my deep connection with the Earth and her rhythms, I explore the parallel journeys of women and Mother Earth as we rise above centuries of devaluation and exploitation and navigate a return to ourselves and our power.
I believe realigning with nature and its wisdom is essential, yet it can be difficult to slow down, tune in, and listen. My intention is to serve as a bridge between the human and more-than-human worlds by weaving my shamanic training into my creative practice. Each piece that emerges is a visual conversation between myself and the natural world, offering a path to connection and access to the healing potential of that connection.
I work primarily in acrylic - often integrating oils and mixed media - on larger canvases that allow for (or demand) more movement and physical engagement. Early layers include elemental blessings, symbols, and messages which are often visually covered yet energetically preserved as part of the healing imprint of the finished piece. It is my hope that my work will inspire a new perspective, a desire for deeper connection, and ultimately, hope for a better world.
