Kate Hessling
Queensland
Australian artist working primarily in abstract and expressionist artworks.
MessageBIO
Kate is an Australian artist based in Queensland. Her work is primarily abstract expressionism with a splash of minimalism and hard-edge thrown in from time to time. Although her underlying influences come from a variety of artistic styles and expressionist artists, particularly from the mid-20th century, she does not restrict her art to any one particular style resulting in a diverse portfolio of colour and conception.
A love of colour and shapes inspires much of her work ranging from random splashes of colour through to some more defined geometric compositions as well as impressionistic landscapes. She states “I am completely fascinated by abstract paintings, the mix of shapes and colours one can put together, and how they can come alive in the eyes of the viewer”.
Kate grew up in a creative family around the visual and written arts and although she principally worked in the Information Technology and scientific fields she has experimented with a range of creative activities including sculpting, clay hand building, and glass fusing, before moving into watercolour abstract landscapes, and now abstracts in acrylic. While she has only been painting for a few years her artworks have been in several shows both physical and online.
Statement
"Art comes alive in the eyes of the viewer".
I am an artist based in Brisbane, Australia working primarily in acrylic. As a self-taught artist I enjoy challenging myself and experimenting with different ideas and subject matters exploring the boundless possibilities of this versatile medium.
My preferred art style is abstract and expressionist and my influences are mostly from the stunning abstract and expressionist works of the mid-20th century. I enjoy experimenting with colours, shapes, patterns, brushstrokes and marks. My approach is generally to reimagine the world around me and try to capture this on canvas. These re-imaginings can be inspired by objects, locations, nature and sometimes just ideas and concepts. Whilst I do sometimes create several paintings in similar styles I generally feel the need to constantly evolve and not restrict my creativity to any one particular style.
My art journey is all about embracing creativity, change, and new and exciting challenges. My mind is overflowing with ideas and the need to explore different works and push my boundaries. I want people to ignore the artwork title and just look at my art and think about what they are seeing, what does it make them feel, what thoughts does it bring to mind, what can they see in it, and even how do the colours appeal to them.
I hope you enjoy my art.
