American Dipper
As an artist, I love the play of light that streams off water. The sounds of water are music to my ears and healthy rivers are wonderful places to observe and appreciate wildlife. The American Dipper is an aquatic songbird that relies on freshwater streams. It flits about the shoreline, from rocks to logs to sand barges as it characteristically ‘dips’ its body in a rhythmic dance with accompanied sounds of burbling river cascades. The dipper forages underwater for insects. Diving in and using wings to swim underwater, it grasps underwater stones and debris with its feet anchoring long enough to glean insects on the riverbed below.
