Observer & patron of the natural world – patterns, colors and inspirations in nature are the genesis of my work.
MessageStatement
Rocks, food and craft filled my childhood. Influenced by family rock hounders, gardeners, sewers and painters, I grew up handling the tools of these activities. A serious pursuit of art did not occur until after three (3) careers and a period living in Baja Sur, Mexico. Time in the warm light of the tropics reignited the desire to paint more. Baja brought a new devotion to the arid tropical desert, the ocean and mountains.
Natural repetitions in life and nature - time and place - with the organic and inorganic always on my visual radar. In awe of how nature uses similar lines and structures in infinite ways, I explore a reimagination or reorganization of what I see and feel.
My color palettes and subject matter take ques from the tropics and my affinity for the Southwest. Mixing acrylic paint, collage, charcoal and ink to uncover the inspirations that mesmerize.
Playing between abstraction, representation and imagination. Referencing colors and subject matter that tend toward the tropics and desert southwest. Paying attention to repetitions in life and nature - time & place - organic & inorganic - and memories we hold. Opening to imagination and reinterpretation. Sometimes recognizable, sometimes not.
