Inspired by the luminosity and textural qualities of Oil and Cold Wax medium, Karin boldly abstracts her subjects with unique compositions and complex color. Wether she’s creating an abstract non-objective, still life, or landscape, her intention is to offer a unique experience leaving openings for the viewer to fill. Merging abstract and representational elements are her specialty. Awarded the President’s Purchase Award and BFA degree from North Georgia College and University in Art and Music, Karin’s artwork is held in public and private collections worldwide. Karin is painting full-time in her studio in Alpharetta, Georgia and re-emerging the Art scene after a career in finance. She recently achieved “Associate with Distinction” 2021 status with American Women Artists, after her jury into the National Juried Exhibition, “Lifting the Sky”.

Inspired by the creative process, organic and geometric shapes dance on my paintings connected by lines and bold color choices. It’s an intuitive process that is refined by contrasts of motion & stillness, dark & light values.
The process of spreading Oil and Wax over a substrate with buttery texture, like icing a cake, excites my senses and gives the blank canvas a starting point to evolve. Scraping back into the wax layers provides me mark-making opportunities to reveal the paintings’ history with surprising colors peeking through. “For the sake of painting” is reason enough for me to start exploring with my tools and allow me to dive into a painting with gestural spontaneity.
My non-objective work is built by expressive line with organic and geometric shapes. Nature and the world around me are a constant source of inspiration and my imagination takes over to express my artistic voice that is constantly evolving.
My imagined abstract land and seascapes emerge with recognizable elements of the land and sea. Challenging myself to capture the expansive skies, translucent waters, and man-made buildings and bridges in an abstract way that allows the viewer to spark a memory or familiarity of their own.
