Lilacs In Gloom

It is a foggy morning when I snap the base shot. The lilacs had been blooming for a few weeks and begged to be photographed. Later, in my studio, I start with the best shot from that morning. I focus on a small section, looking for striking contrasts, color and shape. Various shades of purple, with hints of green leaf and stem poking through, catch my attention. I take the image for a spin with software that allows me to create digital mirrors, a cross between a kaleidoscope and a funhouse with some advanced mathematics thrown in. Surrendering to the creative process, I meticulously mask, layer, and further manipulate my kaleidoscopic images into this dreamy, yet austere, wreath.
