"Art is restoration: the idea is to repair the damages that are inflicted in life, to make something that is fragmented –which is what fear and anxiety do to a person – into something whole." - LOUISE BOURGEOIS
Painting in oils and watercolors, in studios based in western Canada and the Pacific Northwest, my work is an ongoing quest to convey a world I imagine and want to see. I also want to take your breath away in the best possible sense.
"If you hear a voice within you say 'you cannot paint', then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced." - Vincent van Gogh
Always curious and learning, mostly self-taught, I've been carrying around art supplies most of my life, and playing with colour is what pleases me the most. I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, primarily, and part-time in Portland, Oregon. Many significant chapters of my life have been in other places; Alaska, California, Virginia, Austria, Thailand, etc. I draw inspiration, wonder and awe from paying attention to the present moment, and always finding something beautiful to create and attend to, even in the midst of stresses and sorrows. For over 30 years I have been creating art in one form or another, and many of my pieces live in private collections around the world.Â
