The Kanyer Art Collection and Historical Archive of Collage owned by Doug and Laurie Kanyer
MessageThe mission of The Kanyer Art Collection is to build a strategic, international art collection dedicated to collagists from 1980 to present. Key values are to develop a record of study and historical significance and to intentionally archive the artists’ work in order to celebrate the medium.
The Kanyers intend to be involved in the advancement of the medium through private acquisitions of fine art collages, underwriting publications, and holding open calls, exhibitions, grants and events. The public can view the Collection online and presentations will be made through various exhibitions and publications. The Collection is being donated to Dr. Freya Gowrley, art historical and author for study and exhibition.
Acquisitions are made on an ongoing basis, in response to open calls and through private inquiry. Collages are selected using a 40-point criteria that the collectors do not disclose to protect the creative expression of collagists.
As a general rule, works selected for The Collection must be suitable for viewing by people of all ages and therefore must not show violence towards humans or animals, and include zero pornographic images or gratuitous violence. The Kanyer Art Collection and Historical Archive collects works by collagists from all over the world representing many countries, people of color, LGTBQ+, and many cultural and religious traditions.
This private art collection reflects the personal aesthetic of the collectors.
