The Prince of Martyrs: Saint George
This sacred icon depicts the heroic martyrdom and divine miracles of Saint George, one of the most venerated saints in Christian tradition. Born in Cappadocia and raised in Lydda, Palestine, Saint George was a Roman military commander who refused to renounce his faith under Emperor Diocletian. Despite brutal tortures, he remained steadfast in Christ and performed extraordinary miracles: raising the dead, healing the sick, and destroying idols by invoking the name of God.
His unwavering faith inspired thousands to believe, including Queen Alexandra, who also became a martyr. Eventually, George was beheaded and buried in Lydda, where a great church was built in his honor.
May his legacy of courage and intercession be a light for all believers.
