Portland, Maine-based mixed media painter, Justine Lasdin, explores the variety of landscapes Maine has to offer as the core focus of her work. Her work mixes her passion for drawing and painting by using mark-making throughout the process of her work. She enjoys collecting her ideas in small studies with her sketchbook, photography, or small paintings on location. In the studio, she takes that energy to her larger pieces where she incorporates her skills in color mixing alongside collage, drawing, and/or stamping.
My love of the environment inspires me to collect the strength and character of nature by capturing the energy I see and feel. When I am creating my goal is to be fully engaged in the process and let go of the end result. I am drawn to line and the loose edge of sketching and incorporate these elements into my work both in the beginning and end of the creative process. Whether I am painting outside or in my studio I use the physicality of mark making to express the joy I feel in the creative process.
