In 1944, young George J. Stinney Jr. was given inmate No. 260 and sentenced to die by electrocution for the murder of two young white girls. He was convicted by an all-white jury (in a matter of minutes) and became the youngest person ever executed in South Carolina. Despite evidence that pointed to someone else that could have commited the killing, on June 16,1944, little George Stinney was escorted in a loose fitting over sized striped jumpsuit to the brick death house clutching a bible under his arm. He was 14 years old at the time.
