I created this piece for a woman who is serving a life sentence in a state prison in Maine. I met her in a virtual MIT class called “Emotional Intelligence”. We worked on a project together for the class, and we called ourselves “Warriors”. This piece is my part of the project. The cross represents the blood of Jesus that was spilled for forgiveness of our sins. The masks represent how we hide our true selves and our real emotions. The dogs look mean, but they’re loving, because they were taught to be loving. Dogs learn from humans, and they are loyal. I believe that if we trust in God, we will always have a guardian angel watching over us. The bars represent the prison that we often make for ourselves with our thoughts and lack of faith.
