My English and Social Studies teacher at the Boston Pre-release Center School of Reentry, Ms. Donahue (Ms. D) asked me to create a poster with the following lyrics from the Bob Marley song “Could You Be Loved”: The road of life is rocky and you may stumble too. So while you point your fingers someone else is judging you, along with an image of Bob Marley. In the piece I included a portrait of myself, in the clothes that I wear while I’m incarcerated. There is another image of me from the back. I am wearing a business suit, and I’m standing at a fork in the road. One direction is bad, the other is good, and I am choosing the good path. The rose and the Puerto Rican flag symbolize the love for my birthplace. Adam and Eve are at the bottom center, and Adam is asking Eve if he should eat the apple, because the women always make the final decisions, and men should follow them. The word TAINO is the name of the indigenous people from the Caribbean which is where I trace my ancestral roots.
