The two statues represent a couple lying on the floor with child. According to the seller the artworks comes from Yatenga, a northern province of Burkina Faso. (Some stylistic elements indicate that it could also be a Dogon art work. The Dogon live even further in the north, in today's Mali.)
In modern Yatenga, the most prominent city is Ouahigouya. This city served as the capital of the kingdom of Yatenga, a powerful kingdom out of the many Mossi kingdoms, but its influence decreased in the century following French colonisation. The city is famed today for being home to the Naba's (traditional kings) compound and the tomb of Naba Kango.
