Julie Crisan (a/k/a Julie Carrasquillo Cowan) is a self-taught abstract expressionistic artist. Her acrylic paintings—which feature texture, color and at times mixed media invite you to stop to look a little closer. The self-taught painter was born in Puerto Rico, raised in New York and discovered her craft during a stress-filled time and believes that painting can be therapeutic. “When I paint, I just go with the flow of what I’m feeling”. Before moving to Portugal in 2021, Julie lived in Atlanta, Georgia where she exhibited and sold her paintings. She continues to find inspiration to create. She is currently enjoying painting abstracts that express emotion, movement and evoke a moment of thought. Julie welcomes inquiries about her paintings or commissions.
Statement
Art in any form is a wonderful thing. It allows us the opportunity to just be – whether it's stopping to view an original painting, read a good book or listen to music, it creates the opportunity to separate from the complexities of daily life.
I am grateful that I was blessed with the ability to create art in the form of original paintings and sharing it with others fills me with joy. I don't limit myself to painting any particular subject. I just paint whatever I am inspired to paint. I especially enjoy painting abstracts since it is so relaxing to lose myself in the canvas before me. I love trees, faces and bright colors and my abstracts that invite you to look a little closer. I enjoy painting with acrylics, but have been known to delve into mixed media from time to time as well. I just go with the flow; whatever feels good to my spirit.
My desire is to create art that will help my customers to add beauty to their space and my commitment is to keep my prices for original paintings affordable to make that possible.
