Above Loch Katrine
Alchemy & oil paint on copper
Framed behind glass
Above Loch Katrine is a special artwork as most of the image has been coaxed out of a sheet of copper, utilising chemical reactions for the green colours (verdigris). In addition to etching and polishing, I have also added scant oil paint to bring out the scene. The view is from the summit of Ben A’an in the Trossachs, looking north west long Loch Katrine. As the evening sunlight shafted down through broken clouds, the surface of the loch was turned a warm copper colour, and I knew I had to re-create this scene with actual copper.
Varnished to prevent tarnishing, this artwork is professionally framed in a white wooden frame with slip and glazing. Ready to hang.
