Statement
My artistic practice is based on Drawing. My work is not affirmative, discursive or representational. I intend to make images appear on a surface, revealed. There is a formal concern about composition and the limits of drawing, through an interest in tonal differentiation, transparencies and the incorporation of natural materials.
The drawing is often developed in a mediated way by instruments and machines such as the etching press. I understand the machine as a maker of accidents, causing a level of randomness that prevents me from controlling the outcome of the process, which is consequently abstract.
I am interested in cosmogonies that arise from the phenomenological interpretation of Nature and the symbolic interpretation of its elements, giving rise to imaginary worlds and archetypes. These systems of meaning open up horizons for aesthetic speculations regarding the ethereal, the invisible, and the spiritual, which are quite present in my work.
Context is taken into consideration: migration, ancestry, displacement and territory. Ancestry requires affiliation, whether evident or destroyed by the ephemerality of memory and by historical intersections. I seek to reflect on this influence and also transcend the role it plays on me.
The work also develops from a more intimate relationship with specific places and spaces, when it comes to occupations, fieldwork, and artistic residencies. There is a process of integrating the stimuli of the environment with my artistic intentions that often results in videos and installations.
