Background in fine art, music and psychology converge, producing work that uses different colors, textures, and lines to create narrative and atmospheric art.
MessageDr. Judy Stone studied art, music, and sociology as an undergraduate. Even while raising three children, earning a doctorate and pursuing a career in counseling psychology I continued creating art in various forms as an avocation. Judy is retired from her career as a psychotherapist and has re-entered the art scene full time. She belongs to local art associations as well as the Mid-Atlantic Pastel Society (MAPS) and has had artwork exhibited in local and international shows since 2018.
Statement
My creative process is grounded in the principles of art and design, expressed intuitively and naturally. The majority of my artwork is inspired by either a place I’ve visited or music I listen to. The rhythm, lyrics, and emotions take me on a journey with ups and downs, highs and lows, twists and turns. I like the transformative effects of light, color, and shapes and using different mark making techniques, colorful patterns, to produce passionately painted imagery.
I think about the similarities I’ve experienced as an artist and a therapist. To do either, one has to be grounded in knowledge, skill, and ability on one hand and on the other hand intuition, creativity, and vulnerability. As an artist, I am aware that art, like therapy can be healing because it encourages us to make connections between mind, body and soul. Painting, like life, is continual movement, repeated change. My work is meant to inspire new ways of looking at and experiencing wonder.
