Secrets You’ve Seen, 36x36 Oil on Cradled Birch.
When I painted this, I was deep in preparations for my solo show, Transported, @daregalleryart. I hadn’t planned this one, but I’d taken a day off from painting to explore a state park close to home, Colonial Dorchester SP- and discovered there the impressive remains of the brick bell tower of St. George’s Anglican Church. Staring up at the blue sky through the arched window openings, I felt transported through time. I wondered what the lives of those pioneers who built that community were like - their daily chores and interactions, their dreams, their fears. I imagined them in that church gazing up through those same windows, deep in thought and dreams—on the one day they could rest for at least an hour. It feels like it’s always been a place of serenity and secrets. I knew standing in that space that this was my next painting.
