Indian Creek Cows

Indian Creek Cows

I pass by this spot on Indian Creek in Monroe County, WV, at least twice a week, and have been waiting years to see the right group/weather/composition to record. This moment happened last August, so I parked my vehicle on a side road and walked to the bridge over the creek. It is on Rte. 219, a major north-south artery, so I had to time my photos in between semis, log trucks, UPS vans and the normal weekday traffic. Almost every farm animal will give you a look, and the ones that don't will cock their ears. It was a brilliant afternoon and, as I painted, I wanted to capture the patterns in the shallow water caused by the cows' movements and the currents. Not quite as successful at describing the broad leaves of the sycamore shading the calves, but loved the dappling of sun on their backs.
