The young boy in the kayak on the lake is setting out for his first outing of the season on the lake at Lake Norman State Park, a 1942-acre park in the county in North Carolina I reside in. The boy is experienced, but I know he could not contain his enthusiasm for getting back out on the water for the season, since he loves an adventure. It is early enough in the spring that the trees have started to turn green, but not so far along as to become darker and heavier in the woods as will happen when the season progresses. I used the light, calming shades of blue and green to evoke the feeling of a slightly cool, slightly breezy, spring day.
