Message
Jude Scott is a visual artist working from her home studio in Brisbane, creating artworks in acrylics and mixed media to convey her connection to Australian coastal environments, seascapes and landscapes.
Inspiration for her pieces flow from her childhood in the Byron Shire, and an overwhelming desire to translate the colours, shapes and textures of the coast into her creations. This coastal colour palette is a recurring theme in her work, with the aim to bring a sense of calm to the viewer. Aerial views of the ocean and reefs also influence her work with birds-eye view perspectives of abstract interpretation.
With a mixture of formal art education and self-motivated learning, Jude has had the opportunity to complete commission work and has been a finalist in multiple gallery exhibitions and art shows.
Statement
Growing up in Mullumbimby, I spent much of my spare time in the local swimming pool or at the beach. This history has greatly influenced my artworks resulting in the seascapes/landscapes and decorative, textured, abstract works I create. I love to capture how I feel about a place and my connection to it using colour, form and contrast. For example, the softness and fluidity of blue, turquoise waters against the rigidity and darkeness of the rocks and land. In my tactile abstracts, I use multiple texture mediums to build up several layers including acrylic paint, to create my abstracted interpretions of ocean inspired art. Gold leaf sometimes appears as I enjoy the contrast of the shine, smoothness and reflective qualities it can bring to a piece.
Painting is my brain exercise, contemplation and meditation and I find satisfaction and diversity in switching between the opposing styles of abstraction and realism.
Currently living in Brisbane, I find the contrast between nature and the man-made interesting subject matter, also finding real beauty & inspiration in the cityscape. My passion for painting landscapes has been nourished after commission work and I'm excited to do more. Currently, the favoured base for my pieces is predominently canvas, but occaisonally cotton rag for small pieces. Please see CV below for education and exhibition history.
