Pygmalion was a sculptor who fell in love with a statue he had carved. The legendary king of Cyprus fell in love with the statue of Venus. He prayed to Venus that his wife would be as beautiful as the image she had created, thereby making the statue come alive. Pygmalion viewed his artwork with amazement and delight.
