Collection: Figurative x
The goal of the Grand Bather was to create work which encourages viewers to gather and interact with the piece. The human figure also mimics the form of the chair. In a public setting, children and adults can sit around or on it.
The original concept was to attempt to build a figure around a basketball. All the forms are able to be developed maintaining a negative shape on the inside of the figure, except for the head. This protrudes into the negative spherical void. The original sculpture which was done in the mid 60's was about 18'' tall. Subsequent Bathers have been larger, about 2', 4' and eventually 8'.
