Planetary Values- 5 Euro Bill - Citizen by Jorge Luis Vaca Forero Image: Planetary Values- 5 Euro Bill / (Citizen) is a unique approach to global politics. It focuses on the Euro bill, one of the main currencies in the world economy. This project highlights the most frequently mentioned values from the European Union’s Constitution by using laser cuttings to create perforations in the bills, which are then illuminated by LED lights.

The aim is to challenge the legitimacy and symbolic significance of the State. It does this by connecting the symbolism of money with the economy it represents and the values and commitments made by governments that are often not met around the world. The words on the bills can only be seen when illuminated, emphasizing their hidden nature.

This initiative turns these bills into seemingly useless objects and invites us to reconsider the global significance of currency. It questions the ideals of peace, well-being, and democracy that nations claim to uphold for their citizens, suggesting that these ideals may not be fully realized and are limited by the currency that represents economic and social exchanges.
