Moscoso is a Colombian-American visual artist who works in fiber, installation, and performance. Her artwork is held in various collections, including the Latin American collection of Solita Cohen, the Memphis Public Libraries, and the Memphis International Airport.
Moscoso has held numerous solo exhibitions at various galleries and museums, including the SCAD Museum of Art. Her first retrospective was a virtual exhibition presented by the Tennessee Arts Commission in 2024.
She has been awarded prestigious residencies, including the Arts/Industry Residency at the Kohler Company, the University of Arkansas Fort Smith, made possible by the generosity of the Windgate Foundation, and the BOLT Residency at the Chicago Artist Coalition. Moscoso has received grants from organizations such as the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, ARTSmemphis, Tri-Star Arts, and the Tennessee Arts Commission.

Moscoso es una artista visual colombo-estadounidense quien trabaja con textiles, instalación y performance. Su obra forma parte de diversas colecciones, entre las que se incluyen la colección latinoamericana de Solita Cohen, las Bibliotecas Públicas de Memphis y el Aeropuerto Internacional de Memphis.
Moscoso ha realizado numerosas exposiciones individuales en diversas galerías y museos, incluido el museo SCAD Museum of Art. Su primera retrospectiva fue una exposición virtual presentada por la Comisión de Artes de Tennessee en 2024.

Johana Moscoso is a Colombian - American artist currently living and working in Memphis, Tennessee. Moscoso’s artwork explores co-narratives of South American and North American cultures from a subjective point of view. Gender roles, identity and migration are explored through movement and labor. Radical expressions inform materiality that manifests in a variety of mediums in large scale dynamic installations.
Stitching and embroidering create abstract maps that trace the time, labor, and nostalgia of the artist and her family’s migratory journeys. Hand and machine sewing are integral to her personal history originating in Bogotá, Colombia.
Performance works viscerally describe fragile human states, embodied through intimate movement. These performances unpack and subvert traditional roles in Latine dance, dismantling hierarchies and investigating traditional gender roles in Latine culture. Suggestive movements evocate intimate ineffable feelings.
Ultimately, the application of textiles, sculpture, and performance that activates physical environments. These performative installations conjure the feminine presence while celebrating culture and migration.

La obra de arte de Moscoso explora las co-narrativas de las culturas sudamericana y norteamericana desde un punto de vista subjetivo. Los roles de género, la identidad y la migración se exploran a través del movimiento y el labor.
