PHL 2023 Temperature Quilt Installation in Of the Grid: Systems + Structures in Contemporary Art exhibition, a group show focused on artists that explore the grid in their artwork. My artwork Philadelphia 2023 Temperature Quilt is a data visualization that utilizes a grid structure to reference a calendar year. Precise half-inch squares (and periodic triangles) cut from botanical material provide data while also creating a dynamic composition of color, texture and movement. The original botanical artwork and the enlarged and printed full-scale textile quilt of that artwork are viewed together, in addition to botanical specimens. The textile quilt is two-sided, with the visual/graphic theme on one side and information about the botanicals used, the origin of the pattern/design, and other information on the other.
