I create a range of work that is inspired by my joy, curiosity and awe of nature. It is a synthesis of art, design, environmental science, culture and craft.
MessageTypical botanical specimen of Hakonechloa macra ‘Aureola’ (Japanese Forest Grass) demonstrating variegation, color range and flowering with a design intervention that celebrates the native location of the species, Japan. Mutsume-ami (hexagonal weave) is one of the basic weaving methods for bamboo crafts in Japan. The grass is used as a ground cover, along paths, around trees, etc. to add texture and color and functions like a foundation element in the environment, much like mutsume-ami is a foundation weaving technique.
