Statement

I have been painting and drawing for over 30 years. Although I work primarily in Oil, I have also worked in Watercolor, Egg Tempera, and Pastel.

Most of my work is in Landscape and Portraits. I choose ordinary subjects and try to demonstrate their extraordinary emotion, beauty, and presence. I especially love the work of Henri Matisse,Vincent Van Gogh, John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer and Robert Henri, and I strive in my work to reach the strength of expression these artists achieved.

I believe one cannot break the rules until one has mastered the rules. With this in mind, I have participated in many workshops given by current artists whom I admire. My paintings reflect the excellent training I have had working with these artists. I am constantly striving to increase my proficiency and maintain a freshness in my artistic expression.
