Joan Hanley was born an artist. Art school, years of painting, studies in Chinese calligraphy, psychotherapy and meditation are present in all her work .
MessageJoan Hanley is an artist, teacher, and author of the books: Art & Yoga and Original Self (with Thomas Moore). She has been a visiting lecturer at Boston University, Marlboro College, Hofstra University, Smith College, Lesley University, New Hampshire Arts Institute, Omega, Kripalu, Schumacher College and Maine College of Art. She holds an MFA from Vermont College, BFA from Hartford Art School and an MA in Creative Arts Therapies from Lesley University. She began her meditation training in high school and has continued to train and teach in the US, India, Japan, Taiwan, England and China over the past 50 years.
Statement
Joan Hanley currently paints in the former Harrisville Mill’s Sorting and Picker House in New Hampshire, USA. She has shown her paintings at the Fitchberg Museum, MA, Brattleboro Museum, VT, the Mariposa Museum, NH, Museum of Fine Arts Boston, MA, the Open Center NY, the University Museum of Contemporary Art at UMass, the Fitchburg Art Museum and the Attleboro Museum, MA.
