MessageJennifer K Brown is back to clay after a hiatus in the corporate world. After studies at Goldsmiths College, University of London, and Frog Hollow, Middlebury, Vermont, she was a production potter at Sea Raven Potters, working out of a studio on Rocky Neck in Gloucester, MA. Stints as a weaver and a textile designer were followed by employment as a financial reporter, Deputy Director at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and various executive positions at Fidelity Investments, Partners In Health, and Middlebury College (from which she had previously earned a BA and MA). Currently, in addition to her ceramics work, she volunteers for Gloucester Writers Center and Wellspring House.
Jennifer lives and works on the north shore coast of Massachusetts, surrounded by granite, sea, and history.
Statement
I use traditional methods to build stoneware vessels that experiment with form, balance, and surface texture. The silhouettes of these new "artefacts" echo ancient functional clay pots — amphorae, storage jars, platters — finished so they appear to have survived a long-ago shipwreck or centuries buried in the desert, then rediscovered and unearthed intact.
