MessageJimmy Longoria stands as a beacon of leadership and accomplishment, heralded as the trailblazer of the Chicano Aesthetic in the Midwest. He holds the distinction of being the sole Chicano recipient of a prestigious Bush Foundation Artist Fellowship in Fine Art. Jimmy’s unparalleled achievements extend to the realm of institutional recognition, with his artwork enshrined in the permanent collection of Chicago’s National Museum of Mexican Art, a testament to his groundbreaking contributions to the artistic landscape.
Notably, Jimmy’s art was chosen by Target Corporation to represent all Hispanic Art at the 25th anniversary symposium of the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility, affirming his status as a luminary within influential circles of Fortune 100 corporate executives and Hispanic leaders. His innovative use of 3M Architectural Vinyls and Prismatic Films in the creation of art led 3M to hang his work in the Innovation Center of 3M’s Global Headquarters. His extraordinary impact is further underscored by his receipt of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “Living the Dream” Award, a testament to his unwavering commitment to social justice and community empowerment.
A product of esteemed institutions such as the School of the art Institute of Chicago and Pitzer College, Jimmy honed his craft under the tutelage of art luminaries including Rufino Tamayo and Jose Luis Cuevas. Yet, amidst his journey of artistic exploration, he remained steadfast in his vision of giving back to the community, establishing a core tenet of Chicano Art.
Today, Jimmy’s transformative artwork adorns the offices of influential figures such as U. S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, as well as distinguished personalities including actor and Chicano Art collector Cheech Marin and prominent Minnesota State Senators at the Minnesota State Capitol. His mission-driven paintings serve as powerful focal points, compelling calls to action within the dynamic executive sphere.
