Ancient Rings 101
Ancient Rings 101 explores the space between order and emergence. Thousands of individually cut glass elements are assembled within a disciplined framework, then transformed through heat and gravity into a vessel whose final form cannot be fully predicted.
Jewel-like inlays of transparent color punctuate the surface, emerging from a field of French Vanilla glass. Blues, greens, and ambers gather along branching pathways that rise through the vessel like growing forms or fragments of an unknown script. Dark reaction lines define and connect these elements, creating networks that suggest growth, movement, and relationship.
The vessel's surface reveals the evidence of making: countless individual pieces gathered into a unified whole. What begins as a geometric assembly becomes organic through the forming process, as circles become ovals, lines bend, and rigid structures soften into a living form.
Rather than conveying a specific narrative, Ancient Rings 101 invites contemplation. The imagery may evoke botanical forms, river systems, ancient markings, or the earliest stages of language itself. Meaning remains intentionally open, allowing viewers to bring their own experiences and interpretations to the work.
Standing between artifact and invention, Ancient Rings 101 suggests a discovered object from an unknown culture—familiar enough to recognize, mysterious enough to continue exploring.
