I finished this piece on International Women's Day and I have a whole lotta feelings packed into this face. It took me a few years to actually watch the show, Handmaid's Tale, because it felt too difficult to do without feeling enraged. I eventually realized that my uncomfortable feelings were a bloody luxury. On International Women's Day (and every day) I hope in our celebration of all that is brilliant about women and what we have accomplished, we remember that we, as a global population, have SO MUCH work left to do. I believe in us, my feminist friends.
NOTE: I made the price higher than most of my pieces at this size. Partially because I'd be happy to keep it in my studio! And also, it seemed appropriate to make it an "uncomfortable" price. (For me, maybe not for the collector!)
