Island Abstraction II was painted on location during the artist’s residency on a spoil island in the hypersaline Laguna Madre. More abstract than other works in the series, the piece translates light, wind, and reflection into gestural color fields. The marks move between land and water—an intuitive response to place that captures the island’s shifting energy and the meditative rhythm of painting outdoors.
