I spent many a summer afternoon with my feet dangling into the pool of a stream where water had eroded a large trees' roots that dangled into the pool. It was a quiet, calm place, and I think this piece also symbolizes that feeling to me. I was struck by the silhouettes of trees on winter drives, so stark against the sky, and I wanted to create something evoking the Northwest.
