I find that winter in Kansas is unique. The ground's orange, the trees are black, the sky is lavender and blue [when it's not all kinds of other colors].
Further, the sky is constantly changing, doing six impossible things three times before elevenses. And what few buildings can be found in the landscape take on special significance precisely because they seem so tiny and transitory.
The Rose Bank Church is one such "edifice", near the line between Marion and Dickinson Counties. So the tiny, hopeful, Rose Bank Church became the central theme for this painting of a Kansas winter sky.
In Kansas, farmers pray for good snow cover and strong spring rains. The storms that blow through in March and April sometimes bring the water for the entire growing season. And so that is the 'answers to prayers', roiling in the sky.
