When I first moved to Kansas, I was fascinated by the movement of the wind over the grasses, and was determined to try to capture it. "Amber waves of grain" was no longer just a metaphor. But on the other hand, RL Stevenson's poem, "Who has seen the wind?" was firmly in mind. So in the end, it became all about those aerodynamic stunt flyers, the swallows. And the meadowlarks, who are wonderful too.
