Poulsbo, Washington
Artist newly landed in the Pacific Northwest. Painter, writer, and lover of all things fashion.
MessageI have been a painter for 25 years. I live and work in Poulsbo, Washington. My Bachelor of Fine Arts was completed at Colorado State University in Sculpture, where I also obtained my K-12 art teaching license and a minor in Japanese. I have lived overseas in Japan, India and Wales, which has greatly influenced my thinking and my aesthetics. Notable teachers who I have had the fortune of studying with and who have deeply influenced my thinking: Enrique Martinez Celaya, Jennie Kiessling, Joan Anderson, Richard DeVore, Gary Voss, and Patrick Fahey. I also have lived and breathed the collection at the Clyfford Still Museum for over ten years, as a member, volunteer and employee. Both the artist and the museum taught me the underpinnings of the development of abstraction in post WWII America, and the capacity of non-representational paintings to connect people of all walks of life with their inner, illuminated selves. I paint to explore the questions of all philosophers: What is the nature of reality? How do I live in accord with the nature of life?
Statement
The physical act of painting, as well as its final form, captures the energetic nature of thoughts, emotions and experiences, providing a tangible and non-moving surface for contemplation. My goal is to metabolize difficult emotional states, tangled histories, and distorted memories, into a more clear, open and free state of being. My focus is on the liberation of the human spirit.
