The summers of my childhood play in my mind like an old movie. I can see the shine of the sun on the chrome on my handlebars, my streamers flapping from the handlebars. The kiss of the heat on my shoulders. I spent many afternoons rollerskating, making hopscotch, and running through the sprinkler. Afternoons ticked away while I draped a leg over the side of a hammock, or climbed up into a fort to read a book. Kids would tumble down the hot squares of the sidewalk, littered with cards and jump ropes amid jacks and small bouncy balls. We’d move from house to house and make it through the day playing games to occupy our scorching days. Of all things that have transcended, the almighty activity of blowing bubbles. This piece, I’ve named Bubbles to pay tribute to the magic of setting flight to iridescent hope and joy. Those majestic orbs may have only floated for a brief second or two, but they held wishes, and dreams, and kept us captivated. Bubbles, may your jar never be empty, and your bubble take a long and beautiful flight.
