“Gonna Rise Up Singing”

The chandelier is a theatrical metaphor for an era known as “La Belle Epoche”, a golden age of European beauty and science. In the painting, the form dissolves and is then recreated. For some, the chandelier form may not be visible. For others, it is immediate.
In this particular painting, an unusual, more nuanced color combination derives from the colors often used in elegant American homes in the 1930’s- 40’s.
I created this with the ideas of balance, calm and joy. The movement is an upward one and the colors are intended to suggest harmony.
Title comes from “Summertime,” an aria composed in 1934 by George Gershwin for the 1935 opera Porgy and Bess.
